First day of court: New court date Nov. 26
Today was our first day in court. I took a few pictures, which I will upload in a little bit.
There was not much of interest that happened. The prosecutor did not have disclosure for us, so the judge rescheduled a hearing for November 26 at 9 a.m. November 26 is a month after the elections here in Clarington.
With us were a few of our friends, both old and new. Ontario Landowners Association president Jack MacLaren came out in support, along with half a dozen of his friends. Clarington mayoralty candidate Jeremy Woodcock surprised me this morning by asking about the location of the court. He came out in support. Our musical friend Lindy Vopnfjord made the trip from Toronto to be there. And local lawyer Paul McKeever came out as well. A few of my parents’ friends came out, as did a reporter from the Clarington This Week with a highschool student who wants to go on to journalism school.
In total, over a dozen people came out to show their support for my mom and dad.
It was funny when, after the judge rescheduled our case, nearly the whole courtroom stood up to leave. Our lawyer remarked on it.
In sum, not much of anything happened, really. And we still don’t have disclosure, although I’m told that we’ll get it tomorrow or the next day. We’re still hoping that the municipality will drop the charges, which is still a possibility. So here’s hoping.
Below, you can see a few pictures from today’s court appearance:

Here’s my mom speaking with Paul McKeever.

Jeremy signing our petition (he signed our online petition already, but there’s no harm in putting pen to paper).
Here’s Lindy. He’s an important musician, so he has to wear sunglasses to keep from being recognized…
Here’s a picture of me and my mom. And, just for good measure, here’s another:
Thank you to everyone who came out, and to everyone who emailed me and my mom to ask about how things went.

It was an awesome feeling when everyone got up and left the courtroom together, a real feeling of support for Marta and Lech. Next time I would expect to see at least double that number of supporters!
